- Logan is a curious pup. He’s smart, eager, and ready to learn. He will greatly benefit from some “formal” training.
- It would be wonderful for Ash to participate in this type of training, as the puppy classes teach the family clear steps to practice with their pup at home.
- With daily reinforcement, Logan will learn manners, and basic commands like: Sit, stay, look-at-me, come, etc. Y'all can ask any questions you want to, as well!
- I’m really excited about his life with you and Ashton! I look forward to hearing about your adventures with him, including what movies he's seen lately. 😆 Being active and, being included in your lives will enrich his ten-fold and he’ll be truly a well-adjusted dog.

- Like we've talked about, gaining weight is problematic for all pets. Like anyone, it affects every aspect of their lives. Keeping his weight at a normal level is what he needs.
- Even gaining a small amount of weight greatly affects dogs’ ability to move easily, negatively affecting the back, and will cause them pain in their joints; even young dogs.
- Just like people, carrying extra weight or being malnourished causes anything the dog comes down with - even a short illness, a disease, an injury, etc. - will be much worse on an overweight or severely underweight dog, than a normal-weight pet. Monitoring his weight is something that needs to continue throughout his life.
- We say it's best to not follow the amounts they recommended on the bag of dog food. The amounts are too large. Those amounts are based on extremely active lifestyles. Like running miles a day, regularly hiking on hills, mountains, and trails, swimming intensely frequently, working dogs on a farm, etc.
- Most companion dogs are pretty darn sedentary. Even the ones that play hard with other dogs, run around in a backyard, and go to dog parks regularly.

- We’ve talked about the importance of getting him fully vetted each year at his annual exam. I know you haven't necessarily committed to that on a regular basis in the past. Which I understand. I'm needing to ask that you do with this precious boy!
- It's peace of mind, it gives you a chance to ask the vet anything you've been curious about, be it about health, behavior, things you've noticed on his skin, his feet, or a limp! An annual vet exam can find things in its early stages and can be handled more easily and quickly. MONTHLY FLEA/TICK AND HEARTWORM PREVENTIVE ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN OKLAHOMA.
- You need a vet to administer his rabies shot, anyway! There are other shots available that protect his health and your vet can work with you on what you feel might not fit his lifestyle, etc. Here is the shot information:
Core Dog Vaccines
- DHPP / DAPP: Protects against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza.
- Rabies: Required by law in most areas for public health safety.
Lifestyle Dog Vaccines
- Bordetella: Prevents kennel cough for dogs that will be near/around other dogs. (a dog park, boarding, activities with dogs you don't know if they are inoculated or not.
- Leptospirosis: Protects against bacteria in wildlife urine and drinking standing water.
- Lyme disease: Protects against tick-borne bacteria. There are several tick-borne diseases and a 4DX test is what will check for all of those diseases. Most are any easy treatment if caught early.
- Canine Influenza: Protects against the current dog flu strains.

- If for any reason, at anytime, something changes and you are unable to keep Logan as part of your family, though we’ll be disappointed for everyone, we do understand that this may be a possibility. If it is, we want you to contact us right away to let us know about the change in circumstances. We will work with you, no questions asked, and make arrangements to take him back into our care as soon as possible. We ask that you not rehome him yourselves; he is to come back to SPAR. (SPARpets@gmail.com)
- However, In case you know of a trusted candidate to adopt him, please tell us that information and we will quickly contact them and start the adoption process!

Nate and Ashton,
Congratulations on the adoption of your new Peanut! I know you will give him a happy life by keeping him safe, healthy, and included in where life takes you. Peanut is getting to live with an ol’ gal and I know Pirate Peanut is going to love that. You and Ash are enough, but your beautiful Carly is the cherry on top!
Ash, it was nice to meet you on FaceTime. I had gotten to know a bit more about you from your dad sharing some of the wonderful things you’ve said about wanting to adopt Peanut! Hearing those cool things helped me decide what a great choice you and your dad would be for Peanut. But especially after meeting you in person today, I'm confident you are the perfect choice!
I wish y'all every happiness as Peanut the Pirate’s forever guardians.
I consider you my friends too!
Please keep in touch, and thank you !
Kim 😀
